Web Hosting Getting Started Guide

Welcome to your web hosting account getting started guide.  Please read the information below for important information about setting up your account and the steps you can take to get your presence on the Internet under way.  For more information about using your account, please see our Technical Support Pages and FAQ section.

Step 1: Log into your account control panel

The Administative Control Panel (http://www.myhostingadmin.com) allows you to maintain and modify your account with ease. While your domain name is in the process of being transferred or registered, you may use the Address that was provided in your account Welcome Letter in place of your domain name to access your acccount via FTP or through a browser. The address should be something like this: www.myhostingfiles.com/~account.

When prompted enter your assigned account user name password to log into the control panel at the main screen of myhostcontrolpanel.com. Once you have logged into the control panel browse through the features to familiarize yourself with the tools available.

Note: If you keep getting redirected back to the control panel login page after you login once, you will need to close all browsers down on your computer and then bring one browser up again and then go to back to http://www.myhostingadmin.com/.

Step 2: Publish your website

FTP

To upload your files to your site you can use any ftp ready client or ftp enabled publishing tool. Until your domain name becomes active you can use your the temporary address indicated in your welcome email to connect to your account.

You may download a shareware FTP Program called FTP Commander here.
Note: The set up file that you will be downloading is a winzip file. You will need to extract the program and run it. If you do not already have winzip, you can download it by going here

Upload your web files into the directory labeled "htdocs". This is your web directory and any files that you wish to be seen via the web must be located in this directory.

The initial page of your site should be named "index.html", this way when a user types in the url www.yourdomain.com, they are taken straight to the initial page of your site without any further input.

Your CGI-BIN is located in your home/user/www.yourdomain.com/cgi-bin directory.  However, when you access the cgi-bin from a browser, just go to www.yourdomain.com/cgi-bin/.

To see a step by step setup up tour of FTP Commander and instructions on how to upload your files go here.

REMEMBER - name your home page "index.html" or "index.htm".

Note: When you are using an FTP client program you may see a field to specify the directory path of the server you are logging into.  If you do see this field, leave it blank.  You will not be able to FTP to your account if you have any thing in this field.

MICROSOFT FRONTPAGE
To publish your site using FrontPage, follow instructions through our screen shot tour here.

Step 3: Setup your email

You have three options available for sending and receiving email with your account which are described below.

1. POP E-mail Accounts: These are email accounts that you will be able to use with Microsoft Outlook Express or Microsoft Outlook. With POP email accounts you will be able to send and receive email from an address like 'john@yourdomain.com'.  To set up these POP email accounts simply login to your control panel and then click on the 'Add POP Accounts', button and then follow the instructions for adding a POP account. When setting up your email addresses they can either be POP accounts or mail forwarding accounts but not both.

To setup your POP email you can configure your Outlook or Outlook Express with these general settings:

Email Address = username@yourdomain.com
Mail Server user name = username provided when adding POP account through control panel
(Note: your username should be in this format: jill_domi)

Outgoing SMTP Mail Server = smtp.yourdomain.com
Incoming POP3 Mail Server = mail.yourdomain.com

To see a step by step setup up tour go here.

2. Email Forwarding: If you have an existing email account like 'john@yahoo.com' and you would like to create an email address like 'john@yourdomain.com' and then have mail forwrded to your current 'john@yahoo.com' address that is sent to your 'john@yourdomain.com' address, then you would choose the email forwarding option.  So if mail is sent to 'john@yourdomain.com', it would actually just get forwarded to your 'john@yahoo.com' account.  With this email option you would not be able to send mail out as 'john@yourdomain.com.  To set up email forwarding accounts, you would simply login to your control panel and then click on the 'Email Forwarding', button and then follow the instructions for creating an email forwarding account.

3. Web Mail: Your Hosting account also comes with Web Mail. Web Mail is a powerful program that allows you to access your email 24 hours a day from any browser in the world!!!  If for some reason your ISP does not allow you to send email then web mail is the perfect solution for you to send email and have it go to users as AnyName@.

Before accesseing and setting up Web Mail, you will need to create a POP account first by following the POP account instructions above.  Once your account is setup follow the instructions below:

Go to this address: www.myhostingadmin.com/webmail/ and login with the login and password that was provided to you when you set up your POP account.   Once you login, click on the 'Options' link. Then click on 'Personal Information'. This is the page you need to set-up. Fill out this page completely or you will not be able to send mail. Whatever email you specify on this page is the email that your recipients will see.
