FTP
FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol and it allows you to transfer files over the internet. To upload your files to your site you can use any FTP ready client or FTP enabled publishing tool. Until your domain name becomes active you can use a unique address to FTP to your account. The address will be something like this: www.myhostingfiles.com/www.yourdomain.com/htdocs. However, once you upload your site, you can preview your site on the internet by going to an address like this: www.myhostingfiles.com/~acctname. The exact address that you will need is specified in your welcome email.
You may download a shareware FTP Program called FTP Commander.
Note: The set up file that you will be downloading is a winzip file. You will need to extract the program and run it. If you do not already have winzip, you can download it by going here
Upload your web files into the directory labeled "htdocs". This is your web directory and any files that you wish to be seen via the web must be located in this directory.
The initial page of your
site should be named "index.html", this way when a user types in the url
www.yourdomain.com, they are taken straight to the initial page of your site
without any further input.
Your
CGI-BIN is located in your home/user/www.yourdomain.com/cgi-bin directory.
However, when you access the cgi-bin from a browser, just go to
www.yourdomain.com/cgi-bin/.
To see a step by step setup up tour of FTP Commander and instructions on how to upload your files go here.
REMEMBER - name your home page "index.html" or "index.htm".
Note: When you are using an FTP client program you may see a field to specify the directory path of the server you are logging into. If you do see this field, leave it blank. You will not be able to FTP to your account if you have any thing in this field.
