Basic Account Setup Information

1. How do I access my site before my domain is transferred ?

You will be able to site and hosting account by using the IP address that is given to you when your account is initially setup.  Your IP address will be a string of numbers like this: 208.174.34.56.  To transfer files to your account, you will need to specify this IP address in the FTP program that you use.  Once your files are uploaded to the server you will be able to access it in a web browser by typing in the IP address in this format: http://208.174.34.56.

2. Once my account is setup how do I get my web site files to the server ?

You will be able to transfer files your hosting account on the server using any FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program. Some common Windows based FTP programs which are available via download on the internet include: SmartFTP and FTP Voyager.  All versions of MS Windows also include an FTP program however it is a command line program and you will have to know some common unix commands to use it.  Using these programs you will be able to transfer your web site files from your PC to the web hosting server.

If you are using MS Front page to develop your web site files, you will have the ability to transfer your files to the server using the Front Page "Publish" function.  Using this function, you will be able to transfer your files direclty to the server direclty from Front Page.  For instructions on how to do this, please refer to your MS Front Page instruction manual.

3. What directory do I put my web site files in once I log into the server with the FTP program?

All web site files should be uploaded to the "htdocs" directory.

4. What should the file name of the home page to my web site be so that it comes up when people type in my domain name in a browser?

The home page of your web site should be named either index.htm, index.html, index.php or index.php3.

5. Is it possilble to have more than one domain name point to the same web site?

Yes, using domain pointers, which are $2 additional per month.

6. What should I do If I run out of the disk space that comes with my hosting package?

If you exceed that amount of disk space that comes with your hosting plan, you will be notified by customer support who will request that you upgrade to the next highest package plan which has more disk space.

7. What should I do If I exceed the allocated bandwidth that comes with my hosting package?

If you exceed the allocated bandwidth that comes with your hosting plan, you will be notified by customer support who will request that you upgrade to the next highest package plan which has more allocated bandwidth per each account.

8. If I sign up to get an e-store to go with my site, how do I add it to my web site?

Once your e-store is developed you simply need to add a link to it from your web site.   You will also need to add a link back to your web site from the estore.
